The snow is slowly melting on this bright sunny winter day. Not yet spring but the daffodils are bursting through to grab the sunrays in competition with the snowdrops. Increasingly many people are discovering the delights of a certain small fishing town on the Yorkshire Coast. Sandwiched between Humberside and Cleveland is Whitby also known as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the North East Coastline and also as the ‘Dinasaur Coast’

This small welcoming town is gaining a reputation as a desirable place to spend time. Showcased in many television programmes and featuring in many magazines, this small coastal town is gaining accolades as one of THE most popular places to stay.

Whitby B&B establishments are increasing in popularity as an option for accommodation around the town. Different styles of bed and breakfast can be found, all with individual characters. Most recently there has been an expansion of what is nowadays called ’boutique’ accommodation. This style of bed and breakfast has a contemporary feel with rather unusual furniture and furnishings rapidly becoming popular throughout the country. In contrast, there are the traditional and homely bed and breakfast establishments which make the visitor feel like one of the family. More often than not this is because it is a family home and has a shared lounge with the hosts.

One of the main reasons for staying in bed and breakfast accommodation is the hospitality of the patrons. Personal attention and being make to feel welcome can be a major advantage over the larger and more impersonal establishments, for instance, Whitby Hotels.

There are many reasons as to why homeowners would open their doors to perfect strangers for remuneration. It could be to supplement an income. If the homeowner works full-time, then it may be that his or her spouse will run the bed and breakfast for an additional contribution to the household economics. When choosing accommodation there are a number of factors to consider. Is it in the right location, handy for the town, is there parking or nearby parking. Are the rooms comfortable and well furnished with up to date safety regulations. Does the premises have a food safety certificate and fire certificate? For some of the smaller establishments, these certificates are not obligatory but are required if the establishment wishes to register with the local accommodation bureau.

With all the choice of bed and breakfast available in this wonderful town, there is surely something for everyone with a price range to suit most pockets.
