Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a gastric or stomach disease, which is also known as acidity. It is caused due to the acids in the stomach rising upwards to the esophagus or the wind pipe. It’s also one of the major reasons behind causing heartburn. This disease is caused if there is an abrupt change in the barrier of the stomach and the esophagus. If the esophageal sphincter which is responsible for holding the top of the stomach closed, relaxes abnormally it can cause a GERD. This condition can either be permanent or temporary. However, there are other types of acidities that can cause heartburn.

There are different types of symptoms of GERD in adults as well as in children. In adults, the most common symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease are heartburn (feeling of burn in the chest area), regurgitation (expulsion of undigested matter from the moth, also known as vomit), dysphagia (trouble swallowing food or eating it) and odynophagia (pain while swallowing food and liquids) and an increase in salivation. Certain other symptoms include nausea and chest pain. In children, the symptoms of GERD may be difficult to detect at a young age and they might need the special attention of a child specialist. But this disease can be treated with GERD clinical trials.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD is a lifestyle disease and it can be treated with the help of a diet change. It might need surgery only in extreme cases. This condition is usually caused due to improper digestion or a regular consumption of very spicy food. Spicy food that is high in pepper content contains high amounts of capsaicin a common component in chilies that defines the amount of spiciness it contains. If this is contained in high amounts it can cause discomfort in the stomach. It’s also important to consume a lot of water to and food that are high in fibers.

In older people, gastroesophageal reflux disease causes a lot of discomfort and this can be an issue. Instead of lying flat on the back they can raise their head a bit to avoid the acid reflux. Hepatitis C is another disease that causes an infection that damages the liver and it’s usually caused by a virus. If the infection continues it can lead to cirrhosis, which is basically scarring of the liver. Ultimately, this disease can lead to liver failure or also gastric varices, which are basically dilated vein of the stomach. This disease can be caused due to blood transfusion using poorly sterilized equipment.

HCV can be treated by Hep C clinical trials, however, as the saying goes, “prevention is better than cure.” There is a conscious effort underway to develop vaccines in the treatment of all forms of hepatitis. Also, people need to be aware while donating blood or for that matter even while undergoing any form of fluid transfusion that it needs to be done with properly sterilized and disposable equipment.
