Astrology is used widely as a way of foretelling whether two persons are compatible or not. Match making is a common aspect of Indian astrology. In the western countries, compatibility checks are practiced on the basis of Sun Signs. These are commonly regarded as the 12 horoscopes. Astrology in western countries allows individuals to identify their horoscopes based on their date and month of birth. Almost every person knows their horoscope and more often than not, you will find people comparing their horoscopes with their partner’s.

However, Vedic astrology is somewhat a totally different story. In Indian astrology, compatibility is predicted using more than just the Sun Signs. It is for a fact that comparing people’s compatibility using a single Sun Sign which is meant to determine their general personalities is not enough. This is why Vedic astrology goes far beyond stating a person’s Sun sign without checking whether the position of the sun corresponds to the dates given for each horoscope.

Astrology is a relatively wide science and should never be limited to a single sign. When it comes to checking compatibility, Vedic astrology acknowledges the fact that in order to achieve accuracy, peoples’ personalities and characters should be determined by a combination of different signs and features of horoscopes. Indian astrology believes that these planets and signs of the horoscopes have good and bad effects which have to be analyzed for accuracy in the compatibility predictions.

The good and bad Yogas in Vedic astrology have a great effect on the marriage and compatibility of two partners. When they collide, the compatibility could be wanting. Examples of bad Yogas are Manglik Dosh and Kaal SarpYog. If any of these bad Yogas are present in both the partners’ horoscopes, they might not be as compatible as they should according to Indian astrology. For this reason, an astrologer who fails to identify the presence of Manglik Dosh in his prediction can get it all wrong.

In Indian astrology, another common system known as Guna Milaan is used in determining the best matches. In this system, points known as Gunas are assigned as a way of rating the compatibility of prospective partners. The maximum Guna is 36 but it can go below 18 whereby the partner is not considered a good match. This means that in Vedic astrology, the higher the Guna the better the match. However, astrology using Gunas alone is not considered very effective.

There are other aspects integrated into the Guna system in Indian astrology. This happens when a couple registers a high number of Gunas but there is a sign of bad yoga present indicating signs of an unhappy marriage life. Presence of a strong bad Yoga could be a warning signal of an unhappy marriage due to disease, divorce or financial instabilities. This is why astrology makes use of different aspects to eliminate all the chances of a couple engaging in the wrong union. It is important to note that the effects of the bad Yogas can be reduced by wearing gemstones and undergoing astrological remedies.
