This once important whaling and fishing port has become increasingly popular with tourists partly due to its historic past and beautiful buildings and partly because it is a seaside town with lovely beaches, making it an ideal location for family holidays. It has a little something to suit almost anyone. Walkers and hikers are ideally placed for coastal walks and national trails. Historians can embrace the museums and Whitby Abbey in addition to local history in connection with the railways and maritime connections. The harbour area is easily accessible for strolling and wheelchair access especially on the West side.
