Nobody wants to get sick. We all want time off from work or school, sure, but we don’t want to have to be sick to get them.
Usually when the weather gets colder or more rainy, that’s when the sickness sets in. Feeling better all the time would be nice, but getting the flu or a cold is inevitable, so find ways to feel better when they come. Thankfully you can keep your cold or flu from getting worse, but you must do a few things. Once you remember how rotten it feels to have the flu, it is much easier to start some preventative measures.
Drink as many fluids as possible. Whether you have a cold or not, drinking lots of water will always be good for you.
Even when you are in good health, this is still true. Staying properly hydrated is one of the best things you can do for yourself, whether or not you’re trying to prevent a cold. Protecting your whole body is the purpose of the immune system, and when it is fully hydrated, it functions much better, and is capable of fighting off diseases, such as a cold. Proper hydration can be maintained by drinking sixty-four ounces of water each day, or more, depending on your weight.
Clean up all of your household surfaces clean. You can buy any number of wipes that can be disposed of, which will work great to sanitize and clean your household surfaces. Countertops, door handles, and faucets are just a few of the things that get touched regularly that should be sanitized and cleaned by wiping them down several times a day. Make sure you use a disinfecting solution or, at the very least, soap and water to clean these surfaces. You will not get sick as often if you do these things to keep germs away. These are good things to keep clean all of the time, but especially during flu and cold season, because with so many people sick, your immune system is already compromised.
Always refrain from smoking. This is true all the time but it is especially true when cold and flu season is at its highest. If you must smoke, you are going to irritate the passageways in your nose. The flu and cold germs will have an easier time getting the best of you when this happens. Since this will make you more vulnerable, a measure of prevention would be to quit smoking. It’s also a good idea to avoid contact with people who smoke because even passive ingestion of the stuff (aka secondhand smoke) can cause irritations and make you more likely to get sick.
Once you get sick, you can make yourself feel better and also get over it faster by taking a few simple steps. Any time you can prevent something from happening, it beats having to go through it. Since colds and the flu must be endure, because of no cure, it is really important to not get them. Staying healthy can only happen if you don’t get sick.
