Being Flynn is a film starring Robert De Niro, Julianne Moore and Paul Dano, released in select theatres in the United States on March 2, 2012.

Nick Flynn wants to be a writer yet he cant seem to acquire a firm grip on his / her life. Things get worse for the young man when hes reacquainted with the daddy who abandoned him years ago. It is especially tough as it is at the homeless shelter Nick works in where his most loved dad arrives searching for a place to sleep. The reunion sets their personal life back some steps. He soon finds comfort in recklessness, drugs and alcohol. Will he follow with his fathers footsteps or will he learn how to make his own journey? And will father and son ever locate a common bond and finally make up for some lost time?

BEING FLYNN is an incredible film simple as in which. Based on the fascinating memoirs of author Chip Flynn, “Another Bullsh*t Night with Suck City, ” there is much to love in the film adaptation. This is a near perfect portrait of the father and the boy he abandoned. Yet it is also a challenging accept humanity and how far we can get lost in that big, ugly world. As heartbreaking and challenging as being FLYNN is – the books title could have been more appropriate for the film – theres also a light that finds an answer to the hopeless. For some, falling into a going downhill may be their simply chance for true salvation.

Paul Dano is Nick Flynn. He is a young man who is not wholly trustworthy and has an unclear view of his future. He is an article author who cant seem to focus on his words as he is seemingly distracted by everyday living. When his long shed father Jonathan (Robert De Niro) comes on at his new condo, he has a brief glimpse of the man who abandoned him. While it most assuredly holds a positive change, it is not the past time he would come across dear old dad. At the suggestion of an new girl named Denise (Olivia Thrilby) which he is currently seeing, Nick begins working in a homeless shelter. Soon after starting his or her job, his dad shows up looking for accommodations.

Written and directed through Paul Weitz, the filmmaker expands on the heartfelt emotion that he or she conjured in his 2002 feature OF A BOY. Yet in FLYNN, he has the challenging task of getting you to feel something for these flawed personas. Both Nick and Jonathan have moments that can test the audiences empathy, especially with the papa. The man is racist, homophobic, and he seems to resent almost the whole thing in the world which surrounds him. Yet thanks to Weitz lovely script, he gives Mr. De Niro an opportunity to not simply play the stereotype of any wounded poet. It certainly helps that Jonathan Flynn seems to have a number of the same quirks that Travis Bickle had in TAXI DRIVER back in 1976, both are fascinating characters although Jonathan is a tad less volatile compared to his predecessor.

Thankfully Dano and De Niro tend to be phenomenal together. This is certainly a job best for each one of these fine actors, which is especially extraordinary considering De Niros application. If you couldnt feel that these two have of which father and son relationship.
